Our family has a secret and that’s our award-winning butter tart recipe cherished by Eileen ‘Gram’ Giffen. ‘Gram’ worked everyday to make quality products, like Giffen Butter Tarts with quality ingredients. To this day, our team members are perfectionists when it comes to everything we make and everything we do. Customer satisfaction is our priority at Giffen’s Country Market. With ‘Gram’ in mind, our Apple, Blueberry, Cherry, Raspberry, Strawberry-Rhubarb pies and our popular ‘Fruit of the Glen’ pie (mixed berries and apple with a crumble top), and our Butter Tarts are always baked just right each day.
Come to the market for your morning break! Enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea with a homemade tea biscuit, a home baked cinnamon bun, sausage roll or a savoury pastry. Our Market Kitchen serves homemade soup and freshly prepared sandwiches on home-baked bread every day for lunch. Dine-in, take-out and you can make it a lunch combo. You can also choose from our selection of fresh-frozen soups to heat, serve and enjoy at home. Also famous … our fresh-frozen meal entrees like Cabbage Rolls, Lasagna, Mac and Cheese, Meat Pot Pies and Shepherd’s Pie to name a few – the perfect choice for tonight’s dinner.
Frank and Eileen Giffen started growing apples on a few acres of the Giffen Farm in 1939. Over the years, as our family and the orchard grew, the business – involving the whole family – branched into apple storage, packing and shipping. Our Giffen apples were available in many grocery stores locally, throughout central Ontario and beyond from the 1960’s to the 2000’s. While the years have passed, the times have changed, the business has evolved and cherished members of our family have gone before us, our Giffen roots are firmly grounded in our history, our traditions and our legacy. As a family, we will always appreciate our loyal customers who have come from far and wide to the farm over the years to purchase apples from Giffen Orchard and later Glen Huron Apples & Cold Storage. Today, at Giffen’s Country Market, we welcome old friends and we make new acquaintances each and every day.
In the Spring, Summer & Fall months, Giffen’s Country Market is just a few steps away from the Bruce Trail and the Ganaraska Trail (be sure to check Ontario trails for many more scenic sites available in the area). Hikers and cyclists are always welcome. In the Winter, the market is just around the corner from Devil’s Glen Ski Club and on trails sanctioned by the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC). All are welcome, no matter the season to enjoy the surroundings – perhaps on the Market Patio, at Giffen Pond, or inside at the table by the fireplace.
